One of the first ads I ever responded to was the famous Joe Karbo’s “Lazy Mans Way to Riches”. I was lazy and wanted to get rich so it really was a no brainer.
The ad painted the story of amassing untold riches but the only way to find out was to buy his book. So I was introduced to the ‘Blind Ad’.
The book suggested a route of positive thinking and then selling your own products through mail order. Although the content was pretty basic it whetted my appetite for direct response and the rest, as they say, is history.
Blind ads became very popular in the 80’s and 90’s but apart from the last twelve months I have seen very few in 20 years.
